What are unclaimed funds?

Also referred to as unclaimed property, unclaimed assets, surplus funds, mystery money, State Funds, and so on...

Unclaimed funds can be abandoned assets. Some examples:

  • dividend, payroll or cashier's checks
  • stocks, bonds or mutual fund accounts
  • utility deposits and other refunds
  • bank accounts and safe deposit box contents
  • insurance proceeds
  • mineral interest or royalty payments
  • court deposits, trust funds or escrow accounts

Since 1963, Texas has required institutions, businesses and governmental entities to report to the state any personal property that has been unclaimed for up to five years, depending on the property in question.

What is the process for getting started with KW Recovery?

Getting started with us is easy. Simply reach out through our contact form, email, call or text us and we'll see how we can help you recover your funds.

Can I claim the money myself?

Yes! We will never tell anyone they cannot claim the money themselves. However, it turns out, most people have no idea they are even owed money let alone what steps to take to recover it.

KW Recovery finds the unclaimed funds for you, informs you about it, and will work with you to collect any identifiying documents needed, and send them to the state for processing on your behalf.

Does everyone in Texas have unclaimed funds?

No. Every single person in Texas does not have unclaimed funds, but there are a good number of people [and businesses] who do. You can always contact us and we will be glad to check for you!

Are there different types of unclaimed funds?

Yes. They are:

  • State Funds
  • Tax Overages
  • Mortgage Overages
  • Bankruptcies

KW Recovery specializes in State Funds.

Why do you need personal information like my SSN?

Disclosure of your Social Security number is required and authorized under law for the purpose of tax administration and identification of any individual affected by applicable law, 42 U.S.C. § 405(c)(2)(C)(i) and Tex. Gov't Code §§ 403.011, 403.015, 403.055 403.056, 403.078. The Public Information Act, Tex. Gov't Code Ch. 522, and applicable federal law shall govern release of information on this form in response to a public information request.

The SSN and/or Tax ID is used to generate the State of Texas claim form. KW Recovery will not keep or share this information during or after the process.

Is there a finder's fee and why doesn't KW Recovery take the fee out before I receive the money?

Yes, there is a 10% finder's fee that occurs AFTER the money has been recovered and received by the claimant. There are NO up-front fees. We are only paid if/when you are.

KW Recovery does not take the 10% out of what is recovered first, because the state of Texas sends the entire recovered amount directly to the claimant. The 10% fee will be invoiced by KW Recovery to the claimant.
